  • Assembly of the flow cell system TU Dresden

In order to use or minimize the potential of biofouling it is important to understand the mechanisms of the first stages of biofilm formation. To study these mechanisms and to characterize, e. g., anti-adhesive materials and surfaces a modular flow cell system with a parallel plate flow chamber was established. It is designed for online observation of biofilm formation in continuous flow on opaque surfaces using a fluorescence microscope. The laminar flow ensures the maintenance of highly controlled conditions for biofilm growth. Parameters such as oxygen and nutrient levels can be regulated by medium supply. The flow cell can be easily and rapidly adapted to meet different requirements. Thus, it is possible to study the adhesion behavior of microorganisms on various materials.

In performing high precision implant surgery, today's surgeons need to have numerous diagnostic patient information, like x-ray and fluoroscopy images as well as real-time images of the patient, right before their eyes. Cumbersome handling of data, images and monitors during surgery would distract the attention of the medical staff from their demanding tasks and slow down the workflow in the OR. As such, integration of the operating room via a centralized surgical video management platform is of highest importance. The customizable S-CAPE solutions allow user-friendly handling, with hand movements and voice control, and seamless communication between disparate imaging devices, reducing OR time and improving overall patient outcomes.

The song is also a musical confession that being a student „… is the time of your life …“ Tim Gernitz (singer) and Gabor Ferencz (bass) know what they are singing about: Gernitz did a Bachelor’s in Musicology and Art History at TUD and is now in the 2nd semester of his Master’s studies, and Ferencz studied for a Teaching Degree the subjects German/Music. The music video was first performed on the Uni-Tag event on 9 May 2015. So now TU Dresden has not only an image film that demonstrates the university’s excellence in research but a film that is all about student life at this university.
